Immersive Installation
Nature has it that birds of a feather flock together—social beings gravitate towards those with common backgrounds and foster connections through shared experience.
Here you are invited to observe a particular kind of bird native to our gallery floors, as they glide and mingle in the dark. Only when showered with light do these birds awaken, lighting up others next to them in turn.
The species, bearing a bird-like appearance with frankly un-bird-like actions, demonstrates a curious contrast between nature and machine. Its shell is a sleek form reminiscent of actual birds, while its behavior is mechanical, expressing itself through clinking digital sounds and flashes of electric light.
As the light you trigger passes from one bird to the next, the whole flock begins to flicker and ring in chorus. What connects them is a shared signal, their own form of instinct that draws them together for being what they are.
