Who is the you on the other side of the screen?
In the latest installment of the Retrotech series, Player You transports a pixelated version of yourself into an array of digital worlds. Decades ago, home video game consoles gave players their first glimpse of themselves onscreen—the peculiar thrill of realizing it was you, and the wonder of control over a previously one-way medium.
With the expanded technical possibilities of today, Player You takes that wonder further. Embody an avatar of your likeness, generated on the spot, as you traverse different landscapes and leap across screens that span the room, joining others next to you in shared immersive exploration.
Your avatar is a reflection of you at that point in time: how you chose to express yourself that day when you walked in. Each world takes that moment and interprets it in its own style, returning a version unmistakably yours, but also entirely new. Across all the possibilities the installation presents, the range of who you are and what you could become is yours to explore.
